ProTXcoat 108

Ceramic UW Fluid

ProTXcoat 108 Ceramic UW Fluid is a flexibilized high build solvent-free epoxy coating designed for application to wet surfaces and underwater.

Typical applications

Suitable for the coating of components and equipment such as:

  • Subsea structures
  • pipelines
  • risers
  • splash zone
  • sheet and bearing piles
  • other land and marine structures.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The metallic surface to be coated must be free of any marine life such algae or barnacles, any degraded coating or surface corrosion must be cleaned from the surface.

For the best results the underwater repair surface can be hydro-blasted at a minimum pressure of 3000psi. This method of preparation will ensure the majority of surface contaminants will be cleaned from the surface. If there any areas that still have surface contamination they will need to be chiseled clean prior to coating.

If it is not possible to hydro-blast the surface then handheld scrapers and chisels can be used to clean the surface.
If possible a rough pad should be used to try and take away any loose coating or surface corrosion. Please be aware that this type of surface preparation will reduce the performance of the coating.

Warm the Base component to 15-25°C (60-77F°) before mixing
Transfer the contents of the Activator unit into the Base container and mix thoroughly until a uniform material free of any steaks is achieved. From the commencement of mixing the whole of the material should be used within 60 minutes at 20°C (68°F). For small volume mixes, the mixing ratio is 6.75:1 by weight.

The material has been designed to be applied to underwater surfaces in a single coat at a minimum film thickness of 1mm.

Using the green applicator tool provided the material should be pressed onto the surface. Ensure you do not over work the coating once applied onto the underwater surface, as a general rule if the coating has covered the repair area then leave it to cure. You can dress or smooth off the coating after a minimum of 4 hours after application using a gloved hand.

Coverage Rates
1kg (2.2lb) of fully mixed product will give the following coverage rates:
0.685m2 at 1mm – 7.35ft2 at 40mil

Please note that the coverage rates quoted are theoretical and do not take into consideration the profile or condition of the surface being repaired.

Cure Times
At 20°C (68°F) the applied materials should be allowed to harden for the times indicated below before being subjected to the conditions indicated. These times will be extended at lower temperatures and reduced at higher temperatures:

Usable life60 minutes
Movement without load or immersion6 hours
Light loading12 hours
Full loading4 days
Chemical Contact7 days

Note: The mechanical performance of the product is not adversely affected by underwater application and cure but the
surface of the material will be matt rather than glossy in appearance.
